at a bank in fremont. this is at the california bank and trust in the fremont hub. the bank was boarded up and a guard watched the property overnight just to protect the money inside. firefighters say they had to break-in to the bank to find the source of the flames and battle the fire. >> smoke coming from the roof. they forced president are you into the bank and there was a fire on the second floor. it was in the wall. >> took 40 minutes to get the fire under control. who investigators were called into figure out what caused the fire. the bank will bet shut down for a few days until investigators can finish their work. >> police are searching for the gun men in two separate shootings. in the first a bullet wounded eyeing bystander. that happened just after 10:00 p.m. the female is listed in stable condition. a couple hours later at midnight a man was shot on the 1700 block of 13th street. he is in stable condition. no arrests have been made. >>> a rising crime rate just one of the problems facing the new police consultant. he is expected to take over in february. he must also tackle i

as you make your way through fremont. >>> what's happening, steve? >> well, there's thick fog and breaks in the clouds. peggy over in la fayette, orinda and also moraga, some thick fog. it's still there. most of it is higher. there are some areas where it is very, very thick. that will last through 9:00. low clouds fog, a little more of a breeze on the coast helping to stir things up a little bit. there's a big fog bank in the sacramento and san joaquin valley. sometimes a low process to burn that off. you need a breeze and we're getting some of that. the pattern has completely changed. it's no longer one that will favor any rain for a while. it will favor breeze and fog. and then i think the wind will take care of most of the fog. high pressure is building up in the gulf of alaska. that will drive cold air, idaho, montana, the rockies and for us it will mean high and dry. i think we need it after seven days of rain. low clouds, some of that very, very thick. the fog bank, i don't think it's going anywhere. north wind, more of a northwest or west today but by the north wind that usually

is already checking out people who are celebrating the new years holiday a little too much and in fremont police operated a dui checkpoint last night and early this morning. police say research shows crashes involving alcohol drop by around 20% when checkpoints are well publicized and conducted often. they account for nearly a third of traffic deaths. tonight's dui checkpoint here along steves creek will last until 3:00 saturday morning. >>> all right. thank you. the mayor of los angeles called the city's most recent gun buy back a huge success. police showed off all the weapons they collected this week. all together, 2000 firearms were turned in exchange for gift cards and that includes 75 assault weapons and actually two rocket launchers. although there was a great turn out there still needs to be more done to curve the gun violence. they're calling for closing loopholes in gun laws. >> hundreds in utah are learning how to handle guns. a firearms instructor organized an event to provide teacher with permits to carry concealed weapons. it cut one of a handful of states that allow those w

showers in fremont. san jose dry, morgan hill with a few scattered showers and along the peninsula, san francisco in to the south bay and along the coastline, pacifica getting wet. half moon bay dry but you can expect scattered showers as well. the satellite, radar, we have this moving through. this is going to be pretty much the most we see for this morning. behind us we will get a bit of a break that you can see that moisture plume just a river of moisture that will continue driving our way and by tomorrow morning, the bulk of this third and final round of rain will come our way. giving you a look. dealing with the scattered showers but by midmorning mostly cloudy but mostly dry. we have a lot of moisture in the air, a few scattered showers a possibility but by sunset here comes more of a steady light rain and into tomorrow morning there is the wallup over the north bay. into 7:00 it's now shifting. at this time tomorrow morning we will be dealing with this, very heavy, rain at times, into the south bay at 9:00 noontime, still a little hanging on but look to the north bay already star
